$25,000 in Loose Change Paid for a New Truck
The man, who calls himself Paul Brant refers to
himself as a penny pitcher. However, the quarters and dollar coins he saved
really paid off.
The 70-year-old Brant used all his savings in change
in order to purchase a new Dodge Ram half-ton pickup truck, it is interesting
to note that he bought his previous track 13 years ago using spare change as
well.
"(The old truck) didn't have four-wheel drive, and living in the country, I figured I better get a new one to help get me through the snow," said Paul Brant.
He mentioned that he has been tough to be economic since childhood and his father used to pay everything in cash thus saving loose change in order to take vacations.
The coins Brant collected were stored for many years and till the purchase of the truck accounted about $26,000. The previous Dodge pickup and Dodge Neon he acquired back in 1994 using $36,000 in quarters.
"As long as you don't put your hands back in the till, it really adds up," he outlined.
Brant for many years gathered quarters and dollar coins in coffee cans, water jugs and piggy banks. On the way to bringing his "collection" of coins to the dealership he was escorted by the deputies of the local sheriff.
An employee of Mike Raisor Chrysler Dodge and Jeep needed an armored car in order to count the coins and handle them when selling the truck.
"No bank wants to take them," stated Keith Gephart.
