Statistics registered that gamers from the United Kingdom spent not less than a record £1.52 billion on titles this year. This is a 25 percent increase in comparison with the last year and still more than a week to count till 2008.

The United Kingdom estimated huge sales of video games this year, selling more that 78 million titles, buoyed by the great accomplishment of the Wii as well as new hardware.

A new record has been set last week with games sold on a sum of over £87.9 million. The general director of industry body Elspa, Paul Jackson, stated that today games represent "truly mass market." He added: "videogaming is enjoyed by everyone, young and old, male and female."

It is worth mentioning that games industry has been registering an enormous commercial success in recent months. This is due to the overabundance of titles that indicate what has been dubbed "gold age" of the games industry.

Super Mario Galaxy, Bioshock, as well as Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3 all have received numerous awards and positive votes from gamers and reviewers. Such games literally boosted sales for games.

In the 3^rd quarter of 2007 above 11 million consoles were acquired. This is a 33 percent increase if compared to 2006. Such results are due to a great demand for new machines, such as the Wii, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Games developed for consoles currently represent 79 percent of all sales of software.
