The first thing to say is that Google has finally updated Page Rank. However, it is logically right to start from the very beginning. All webmasters know that Google Page Rank (PR) represents a value, from 0 to 10. The goal of this value is to estimate the sites' popularity.

The number one search engine constantly calculates the PR. It is worth mentioning that the value found in the Google Toolbar, installed on your browser, is only an illustration of the real PR value at a certain point in time. Usually Google updates its PR every 3-4 months.

The last update, however, for the first time was performed after more than five months.

Did Google Page Rank Update Affected Only Blogs?

google_logoAll publishers have been waiting for the update and it finally arrived hitting many websites. What is most interesting is that the update hit a lot of blogs. Major changes did not occur mainly on the business sites or the directories.

The reasons may be various, but they all can be quite true and quite reasonable. Not much time has passed from the moment when Matt Cutts outlined that Google will punish all the link sellers in case there is no relevancy or simply because the search results do not rely on the links that your website has on the web.

This may be a fair reason. But then again, what do blogs have to do with it? Why were they hit and the PR gone?

Today on the web there are thousands of web directories, sites linked with the business, best selling resources and many more that perform only link selling or their manage various affiliate programs in order to earn a profit.

The answer to the question why the Google has chosen a new strategy able to affect bloggers (who earn their profit from writing qualitative content) and not the sites mentioned above is that no one looks forward to advertise on a website, which does not offer anything in exchange.

There has been a lot of argues on this topic. Some webmasters stated that they are dazed and confused by the fact that their websites with authoritative references and quality links have been hit by the update and their PR dropped from 5 to 3 or from 7 to 5.

Noted bloggers are now puzzled by Google updates. Below there is only a shapshot on some websites that were hit by the update. Though the site earned their authority fairly, Google follows its strategy dropping what is less profitable.

Google mentioned that websites selling links can end up being hit by its search engine. They may also face penalties that could lead to preventing the sites from being ranked well.

Analyzing various cases it seems that those who paid for links from some of the blog networks several months ago saw every link from that network dropped from Webmaster Tools for their website.
