"I think if people can help the process trying to make HIV a thing of the past, I'm willing to help, too. It's a hard subject to talk about. People sometimes try to avoid it, that's not the way to go," he added.
The campaign entitled Unite for Children, Unite Against AIDS uses the power of sports to educate young people about HIV/AIDS and the dangers the disease can bring. The campaign teaches children the necessary skills to be used in life in order to protect themselves as well as their families.
"Children and young people continue to be disproportionately affected by HIV and AIDS," outlined Federer. "Sport creates leadership opportunities and teaches children teamwork, encouraging them to make good choices that can reduce their risk of HIV infection. Sport also helps prepare young people to meet challenges and encourage them to take leadership roles in their communities. Sport is a fun way to learn lessons that will last a life time," he added.
Being part of the Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS campaign, UNICEF cooperates with various international sports organizations such as the Association of Tennis Professionals, FIFA and the International Cricket Council. These partnerships have the goal of providing the positive aspects that sports can teach.
