According to the United States federal appeals court, it is unacceptable that the US banknotes have the same size and texture. At the ruling upheld by the court, judges voted 2 to 1 for revamping all dollar banknotes. They rejected the claim of the US government, according to which changing the size and textures of the US banknotes is a very expensive procedure.

Bust of CaesarA marble bust of Julius Caesar has been recently discovered by the divers in the Rhone River. The Culture Ministry of France believes that the bust of the aging Roman Emperor might be the oldest ever known.

 

Scientists consider that the life-sized bust of the emperor, featuring wrinkles and hollows on his face is dated back to 46 BC. Along with the discovery of the bust of Caesar, drivers trained in archaeology were able to find a collection of many other ancient items in the Rhone, located near the town of Arles, which was founded by the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar.

Medieval Silver CoinsTogether with his grandfather Jens, Alexander Granhof, who is a nine-year-old boy, discovered a huge amount of silver coins. It is believed that the coins date back to the Middle Ages and scientists consider that the medieval silver coins are, in fact, represent largest ever discovery in southern Sweden.

 

Mr. Jens and Alexander went out to explore the place where the Battle of Lund took place, back in 1676. The boy suddenly spotted on the site a few silver coins that were coated in verdigris. It seems that due to the recent plowing the treasure somehow came to surface.

Lincoln Penny PortraitTogether with his son Danny, Jeff Haber created a portrait of Lincoln out of pennies, thus proving that framing pennies make perfect sense. Jeff Haber started gathering unwanted or overlooked copper coins several decades ago. He now possesses "tons of pennies," and according to elder Haber, he has been collecting pennies for over 30 years.

 

About eight years ago he was very impressed by the portrait of Abraham Lincoln made of pennies at the Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum, located in Florida. That was the moment that inspired him and his son to create their portrait of Lincoln, thus setting up for a challenge.

2000-Year Old Ancient Roman Coin Found in Wales

Ancient Roman coinA man passionate about metal detecting discovered what is believed to be one of the oldest ancient Roman coins unearthed in Wales.


Roy Page is 69, and he is a retired butcher from Coedpoeth. He was the one to discover a detailed ancient coin that has about 2,000 years. The ancient coin was found on a farm near St. Asaph. Mr. Page was able to discover the rare piece when he was on search with the Mold-based Historical Search Society.

Commodore Matthew C. Perry Gold Medal Sold for $165,000

On Bruce Gamage’s auction in held in Rockland, Maine, one out of ten phone bidders bought a gold medal offered by the Boston merchants to Commodore Matthew C. Perry "…in token of their appreciation of his services in negotiating the treaty with Japan signed at Yoku-Hama, March 31, and with Lew Chew at Napa, July 11, 1854…" The bidder paid $165,000 for the medal and offered an additional premium.

 

Finland Independence Day Celebrated With New Collector Coins Issue

Mint of Finland Ltd launched two new types of coins: 100-euro collector coin and a 5-euro collector coin. These were issued to commemorate the 90th anniversary of independence of Finland.

 

The former collector coin is made of gold. It weights 8.48 grams and its diameter is 22 mm. The 5-euro collector coin is made of Nordic gold. The surrounding ring of the coins is made of copper-nickel. The characteristics include a weight of 19.81g and 35mm diameter.
