Mint of Finland Ltd launched two new types of coins: 100-euro collector coin and a 5-euro collector coin. These were issued to commemorate the 90th anniversary of independence of Finland.

The former collector coin is made of gold. It weights 8.48 grams and its diameter is 22 mm. The 5-euro collector coin is made of Nordic gold. The surrounding ring of the coins is made of copper-nickel. The characteristics include a weight of 19.81g and 35mm diameter.

The collector coins, meant to commemorate the 90 years of independence, were designed by sculptor Reijo Paavilainen, who won the competition for the best design, offering his "Plus". The competition took place in August this year.

The expression of the 100-euro coin looks great. The coin's obverse side illustrates Finland and its years of independence. It is interesting to note that the abstract composition found on the reverse side of the coin is not common among Finish collector coins.

The petroglyph aesthetics can be found on the 5-euro coin, issued by the Mint of Finland Ltd. Its reverse side portrays one significant element that is collaboration illustrated through a boat, having nine oars, and oarsmen that served as basis for the design of Reijo Paavilainen.

When the Finish mint will introduce its 2-euro commemorative coin it will include the same design as the one on the 5-euro coin.

The Mint of Finland Ltd looks forward to issue 9,000 pieces of the golden collector coin and 150,000 pieces of the 5-euro collector coin. Among them 20,000 5-euro collector coins are in proof quality.

The first 5-euro collector coin saw the light in October 15, 2007. As for the 100-euro collector coin then collectors will be able to acquire it starting November 5. The coins will be sold at Rahapaja Moneta, in several monetary shops, shops of the Finnish Postal Service, and the Academic Book Store, in Finland called Akateeminen kirjakauppa, located in the Helsinki city center.
